Gospel of Luke
Chapter Four
Day 4 of 24
From the refreshing waters of His baptism, Jesus was sent into the arid dearth of the wilderness. The Holy Spirit led Jesus there to face temptation on steroids sponsored by the devil himself.
Forty days of fasting brought Jesus to his human, physical breaking point. The only thing broken was the attack of the devil. Jesus used three quotations from the book of Deuteronomy to counter the counterfeit currency of His enemy. Game. Set. Match. Checkmate. For the time being, the enemy slinks away only to prepare for his next attack.
Next stop for Jesus was the Galilee. He would arrive in his hometown of Nazareth to deliver a message in the synagogue. Using the book of Isaiah the prophet, Jesus would declare Himself to be the One Who came to set the captives free. Instead of “all day singing and dinner on the grounds” for the hometown hero after services were completed, Jesus was escorted to the nearest cliff to be killed. He escaped out of that crowd. Jesus was holding out for crucifixion.
In Capernaum beside the Sea of Galilee, Jesus would cast out evil spirits and heal people of their diseases. He was praised by the multitudes. People were amazed at His great authority.
Jesus regularly sought out times and places of solitude. He desired constant connection with His Father. He needed soul refreshment. He needed body renewal.
Jesus longed for time with the Father.
Do we? Do I?
Demons know Jesus personally.
Do we? Do I?
Jesus hid The Word Of God in His heart.
Do we? Do I?
